Next week, the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in almost 20 years. Some fret that earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other disasters will follow.
Keep your eyes on the night sky on March 19, also known as the evening of the extreme Super Moon, when the lunar sphere comes as close as it ever has, or will, to Earth. Some believe the astronomical event will be followed by catastrophic storms, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
The earth will be at its closest point to the moon – 221,567 miles – in 19 years on March 19. The scientific name for such a phenomenon is “lunar perigee”. Previous supermoons happened in 1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005. Each year had extreme weather events.
